Streaming — Likely to Work With Many Streaming Services

GetFlix claims it can securely access over 500 worldwide streaming platforms from anywhere. This is a bold statement, as even some top VPNs struggle with various major streaming services. Many platforms use strong anti-VPN measures that make it impossible to stream safely.

It also offers an alternative SmartDNS that allows you to stream content in HD without the drawbacks of a VPN. This method doesn’t encrypt your data, which means that you can watch your favorite content without slowdowns. However, this also means that all the personal information on your device remains exposed while streaming.

You can use its DNS servers and the VPN at the same time, but only on select servers. I highly recommend using this method whenever possible, so you can keep your data safe while you stream. However, it might not be available depending on the server you choose or the device you’re on.

I was impressed to see it offers streaming-optimized servers. These servers provide faster, more reliable connections, reduce buffering, and improve video quality. They are designed to access streaming platforms and facilitate streaming without interruptions.

When choosing a VPN to safely stream your favorite shows and movies, consider two important factors: whether the speed is good enough for smooth streaming without lag and whether it can give you secure access to your preferred platform.

Speed — Server Congestion Can Cause Delays

Getflix claims its VPN offers fast speeds and unlimited bandwidth for a reliable connection. However, your actual speed will vary based on your proximity to the server. Typically, if there are no nearby servers, you might experience slower speeds because your data has to travel a longer distance. This might lead to delays and reduced performance.

The protocol you use can also affect your speeds. I tried asking customer support how much speed loss I should expect with GetFlix. Unfortunately, the response was vague. I was told the exact percentage of speed loss can vary based on several factors, including your original internet speed, the distance to the VPN server, and the VPN protocol used.

Server load can also greatly affect speed. High traffic on a server can cause congestion and slow your connection. Since GetFlix has a smaller server network, you might experience slower speeds due to this congestion. Gaming — Good Enough for Online Gaming on Nearby Servers

GetFlix claims that it offers low ping for playing games without lag. For online gaming, the key factor is your ping rate, which measures how long it takes your data to travel. A good ping rate is below 100 ms. Higher ping means slower response times, making competitive play difficult.

However, even for the top VPNs I’ve tested, performance depends on your distance from the server. A VPN’s ping rate will be much higher if the server is far from you. Since GetFlix has such a small network, you might have trouble finding a nearby server that provides low latency.

Server Network — Limited in Size and Options

GetFlix VPN only offers 25 servers in 19 countries worldwide. This is pretty meager compared to competitors like ExpressVPN and Private Internet Access. They both offer twice as many countries, and over ten times as many servers. However, I was impressed that GetFlix has locations in some uncommon countries like Turkey and South Africa.

With that said, I’m disappointed that GetFlix doesn’t own all its servers. A portion of its infrastructure is rented from third parties. I prefer VPNs that own their servers because they ensure there are no middlemen who can tamper with them, which gives you better protection for your data and privacy.

On the plus side, all servers are city-level, which means that if there are servers in your country, you can easily estimate the distance from your location.

The majority of its servers are optimized for streaming. Streaming-optimized servers can potentially provide faster, more reliable connections, reducing buffering and improving video quality. They’re also regularly updated to help ensure you can always stream uninterrupted. It also has 26 SmartDNS servers.

However, it’s too bad that GetFlix doesn’t offer dedicated IP addresses or RAM-only servers. Dedicated IP addresses provide a stable and unique internet identity, useful for activities like hosting a website. RAM-only servers delete all data after each reboot, which makes them more privacy-friendly.

Security — Good, but Missing Some Features

GetFlix offers the security features that you need to stay safe online. While its main focus is on streaming performance, I like that it provides robust encryption and a suite of popular security protocols. Plus, it offers a kill switch, a necessary feature every VPN needs.

That said, it lacks several advanced features that many of its top competitors offer, like split tunneling. It’s also missing obfuscation, private DNS servers, perfect forward secrecy, and many other important security tools. Encryption and Security Protocols

GetFlix offers both 128-bit AES encryption and 256-bit AES encryption. 256-bit AES encryption is the gold standard and is used by the top VPNs. This encryption level is so strong that even the most powerful supercomputer would need thousands of years to crack it. 128-bit AES encryption is a bit less secure but faster.

The encryption you’ll be using depends on the protocol you choose. The options include OpenVPN UDP, IKEv1, IKEv2, PPTP, SSTP, and L2TP. GetFlix recommends using OpenVPN with 256-bit encryption for the best mix of speed and security.

OpenVPN is typically considered the safest protocol since it’s open-source, and anyone can view and audit its code. It’s just too bad it doesn’t let you connect with WireGuard, which is largely regarded as the fastest protocol.

Kill Switch

I was glad to see that GetFlix offers a kill switch, a feature many smaller VPNs lack. A kill switch automatically disconnects your internet if the VPN connection drops, preventing your real IP address and personal data from being exposed. It gives you continuous protection by blocking all traffic until the VPN connection is restored.

DNS Leak Protection

GetFlix DNS Leak Protection securely routes your DNS queries through their servers, preventing leaks to your ISP or third parties. This keeps your online activity hidden, protecting your data and ensuring your privacy while using GetFlix.

Privacy — Unclear Policy That Hasn’t Been Proven

GetFlix’s privacy policy doesn’t explicitly tell you what information it records. It only details what kind of data it does collect, and there’s no mention of what it logs when you’re connected to the VPN. Additionally, it hasn’t undergone any third-party audits that could prove its claims are true.

Does GetFlix Keep Logs? Maybe

Getflix’s privacy policy is vague and was last updated a decade ago. The biggest issue is that it doesn’t give you any information about what it records when you use the VPN. Almost all VPN providers have to collect some data to keep their services running. I highly doubt that GetFlix is any different, and it’s worrying that it isn’t transparent in this regard.

All it really details is the kind of data it collects when you visit its website and how the data is used. It admits to storing personal information like names, payment details, and mailing addresses. They also collect non-personal data such as details about your computer, browser, operating system, and ISP.

Getflix encourages users to share personal information to enhance customer service, increase efficiency, and speed up its processes. The company claims that it protects this data with advanced security measures and never rents or sells it to third parties.

Was GetFlix Audited? No

GetFlix’s policy hasn’t been audited or verified by any third parties. I couldn’t find any information online about this, so I contacted customer support. The agent confirmed that neither the policy nor the apps have been independently verified.

An audited privacy policy assures me that the service does what it claims. However, I wasn’t surprised since GetFlix VPN’s privacy policy is so bare bones anyway.

Based in Seychelles

Getflix is based in Seychelles, a location outside the 5/9/14-Eyes Alliances. This means Getflix isn’t required to share your personal information if other countries request it. Additionally, the Seychelles is a fairly popular jurisdiction for VPN companies due to its privacy-friendly laws. So, at least in this regard, GetFlix is doing the right thing for your privacy.

Does GetFlix Work in China? No

Getflix VPN’s support staff confirmed it doesn’t work in China. They were quite brief in their response, and it was a little difficult to understand. However, any VPN that works in China won’t hesitate to advertise that fact, so I firmly believe the answer I was given is a “no”.

The Chinese government has blocked many VPNs, but there have been no publicly reported cases of individuals being targeted for using them. My team and I do not support illegal activities. We recommend understanding the local laws of any country you’re in before using a VPN.

Torrenting — Decent Support for P2P

Getflix allows torrenting on all its servers, but I recommend sticking with the VPN. It’s possible to torrent while connected to one of its DNS servers, but you won’t have encryption. Since you never know who you’re connecting to on these P2P networks, it’s best to protect yourself.

You can get the fastest speeds by using a nearby location and its SOCKS5 proxy. But, once again, I’d recommend being cautious and using the OpenVPN protocol to encrypt your connection. I also appreciate that GetFlix includes a kill switch, which is crucial for torrenting.
